Notes: This isn't as long as I expected. But don't worry. There is more coming. ;)
Cordelia Chase stood by the refreshment table. She had come to Los Angeles for one reason, and one reason only. She wanted to be a big star. So far, her plans weren’t working out.
It was hard to find an agent, and even harder to get an audition. One thing she had learned in the few months she had been there, was that it was always a good thing to have connections. Of course, those were something you had to come into. She hadn’t had much luck in that department.
So when one of these parties came up, she always jumped at the opportunity to show. Her agent had spent a lot of breath telling her that to get what you wanted, you had to make it happen. Of course, she was convinced now that he was only saying that in order to get her to give him the money she needed to get started.
These parties always ended up the same. She showed up trying to find someone to talk it up too, but for the most part she ended up standing alone either by the refreshments or in the corner. The only time anyone would come up to her, was when some wanna be actor tried to work some lame pick up line on her.
So far, tonight wasn’t much different.
Sometimes she would spot an important person, but most of the time they would ignore her and walk away. She would quit, but that was never in her character. Even though the acting wasn’t bring her much money at all. She hadn’t gotten a job yet, and the little bit of money she had left from the small account she had back in Sunnydale was almost gone. She couldn’t afford more than a couple more moths of rent, if that.
She was starting to wonder if it was worth it.
“I know, boring, isn’t it?” She heard a voice say behind her. Judging from his voice, he was probably in his mid twenties. She could tell he was smug, and that wasn’t exactly something she wanted to put up with right now.
“Oh great, just what I wanted tonight!” She said, not even making a move to turn around, “Look, I know you saw me, this beautiful girl, standing alone, and thought to yourself, ‘Wow. She looks like a good time!’ But,” she turned around to face him, “Don’t try the nice guy act. Or the cool guy act. I’ve heard it all, and I’m not in the mood.”
“Whoa whoa. Relax there,” he said, putting his arms up in defense, “I was just trying to make conversation.”
“That’s what they all say,” she said. There was a definite hint of annoyance in her voice.
“They all being who?”
“They being all the men that come to this party,” she paused, looking him up and down, “They come to these things hoping to meet some woman who can be their prey for the evening. They put on the charm, give the big eyes and bright smile, hoping some poor girl will fall into their trap. Well sorry. I’m not going to fall for it. So don’t give me the line about how you are an agent/manager/casting director/son of a director/whatever. I don’t buy it, alright?”
“Hey hey. Someone is defensive. Who screwed you over?”
“We aren’t talking anymore,” she said, turning to walk away.
“Interesting girl,” he whispered under his breath, before turning to walk the other direction.
So there you have it. Not that great, but my first fic in months, so I'm just happy to have written something.
